This is a great little book that I am going to put into action right away! Barrie Davenport really knows how to deliver the topic of LOVE and RELATIONSHIPS in "201 Relationship Questions". In this book Barrie covers twenty sections/topics with about 10 highly valuable questions per chapter. The questions really drill down to getting you and your partner to communicate in ways that you never have before. I loved this book so much I think it should be given to married couples and partners as a prerequisite to starting a relationship. By asking the right questions, you can certainly overcome difficult obstacles and have a healthier, wealthier and happier relationship. Why wait until things fall apart? If you start to ask yourself relationship questions, you'll find yourself coming up with the solutions you need to communicate with your wife/GF/Partner.The book is also written in a very warm and down-to-earth style that readers can relate to. Instead of being lectured, you feel as if Barrie D. is right there giving you a one-on-one coaching session. If you value the relationships you have, or plan on having, I would highly recommend that you read "201 Relationship Questions."
This book really helped my partner and I with our communication. We had been to counseling twice and were at the point of calling it quits after a decade of hurt feelings and anger and disappointments.This book was a last ditch effort. It worked and it helped us listen to each other. At the beginning, we skipped some of the questions that were hot buttons for us and answered the easy ones to get into the groove. Some of the questions we actually sat and wrote each other letters to answer. Then we gave it a few days for the other to read and think about before we talked. That helped. So did keeping an open mind that we may have both been out of line and down right wrong at times.Definitely worth the money
The first few chapters and questions therein were enough to identify and begin to correct near fatal communication and other relationship incompatibilities between myself and my spouse. This work is based on the very helpful "love language" model developed by Dr Gary Chapman (also an enlightening relationship aide). I have always known our communication was poor- that we had blinders when it came to certain areas in dealing with each other that lead to repeating the same conflicts over and over. It got to the point where a few words into a discussion turned argument, I already knew what the angry, damaging outcome would be. This book helped unravel the communication breakdowns and gave us tools to translate our differing styles for each other. Now I know what to say to make sure my wife understands me correctly. It is amazing how perfectly rational and decent people with different perspectives can begin to hate one another purely due to misperceptions based on simple misunderstandings - misunderstandings about basic issues that can persist and fester. This book will address some of the biggest ones - like expressing LOVE to your spouse and asking for LOVE/attention from them, and basic communication styles. What I learned by going through the questions with my wife of almost 20 years was revolutionary and may turn our struggling marriage around. If this works then there is no way I can repay the authors for this blessing. I hope they keep producing more of the same, maybe for parents/kids and other relations like Chapman's books have done. This is powerful and transformative stuff.
This book is a must-read for couples who want deeper connections with their partners and more fulfilling relationships. It probably would have saved me a few years of heartache at the beginning of my marriage. Lack of meaningful communication is at the core of most relationship issues. I've historically had difficulties opening up and communicating given my introverted nature. 201 Relationship Questions is a great guide that couples can use to broach those difficult questions that are challenging but so important to communicate openly about in a relationship like money, spirituality, personal needs and boundaries, intimacy, children, friends, health and more. Even after 17 years of marriage, my husband and I learned more about each other and ourselves. We also enjoyed the opportunities the questions created to reconnect in the midst of our usual hectic, kid-filled lives.
When I bought this book I was looking for a book that would bring my significant other and I closed together because we live hours away from each other. Unfortunately, he could not handle along distance relationship and our relationship ended before we could work through the she's as a couple. However, I proceeded to answer the questions honestly from prospective of our failed relationship. The questions in this book helped me understand his view point that I was not fully invested our relationship and why he gave up on us. A fact that I denied. However, answering the questions honestly validated his view points and the view points of previous significant others. I learned so much about myself from this book. It has make me a better person for the next person that I open my heart to.
