Predictably repetitive of Dershowitz's civil libertarian views, this book clearly explains how OJ was acquitted. He looks at several issues as they might relate to the verdict, including racism, fame, etc. Dershowitz writes clearly and his materials are always easy to read. If you don't agree with his views on civil liberties, this book will just tick you off so don't buy it.

DershowitzIn reading this book I was pleasantly surprised by Mr. Dershowitz’s approach to relating the events of this trial. Mr. Dershowitz was a tenured Professor at Harvard, up until 2013 when he retired. During the OJ Simpson trail, he was part of the Defense, closely monitoring the trial in case an appeal had to be filed.The contents of this book are not an attempt to ascertain whether OJ was actually innocent or guilty. This is a treatise on how the law actually works. At no point does Professor Dershowitz come out and call OJ innocent. This is a record of the trial, blow by blow, that gives the reader insight into why the verdict was for acquittal.Reasonable Doubts are the deciding factors into whether or not a verdict is correctly made. That justice sometimes miscarries is a given. But this book shows what comprises “Reasonable Doubts.”Sherlock Holmes once said it is not a matter of what you know; it is a matter of what you can prove. This is the basis of any court proceeding. The Jury is to consider the accused “innocent until proven guilty.” By the letter of the law, then; your opinion doesn’t matter. On the Jury you must decide on whether or not the prosecution has proven its case. In your own mind you may believe the person totally guilty. But the question is, would a reasonable person hearing the same facts that you have heard as a member of the Jury have reason to doubt part of the picture?Professor Dershowitz takes us through a step by step recounting of where there were serious errors of judgment in the Prosecution’s case. Some of the mistakes were possibly not mistakes at all, yet there were enough certain mistakes to toss the balance. As Professor Dershowitz says, it isn’t the business of the Defense to prove their client innocent. It is their duty to see that they have a fair trial. This may mean having some evidence thrown out for a seemingly trivial reason. The fact is, the Prosecution will be doing likewise. Furthermore, the Defense must endeavor to trip up witnesses on their testimony, challenge the Prosecution on every motion and question, and wax eloquent during closing arguments.This case was not won by the Defense; it was lost by the Prosecution. Time and again the author points out flaws and tells the readers how the Prosecution might have avoided the flaws. It tells of witness tampering, convenient amnesia, possible evidence tampering and planting, and policemen unworthy of the badges they wore.For the record I am white, male, and I believe OJ to be guilty. I have read a good many of the books that were the result of the trial, this being one of the best, and my opinion hasn’t changed. But I now believe given the circumstances outlined by Professor Dershowitz, and by other authors both for and against OJ’s acquittal, that the Jury made the right call. Book was new and received the book on time

While watching the "trial of the Century", I kept feeling that the prosecution was truly botching its case. But, not being a lawyer, I was not quite sure my perceptions were accurate. When the verdict came in, I felt vindicated. I was for acquittal, although I am white, whatever that means. Reading Dershowitz' wonderful book gave me the Aha feeling almost every other page. And it made me almost regret that decision I took more than forty years ago to abandon the study of law and go for the social sciences. It is terrific to see a first-class legal mind at work. The book does not pretend to prove O.J.'s innocence, but it convincingly demonstrates that the jury arrived at the correct decision.His logic is impeccable and, as far as I am concerned, he accomplishes the task he set out for himself. A masterful intellectual performance. On the other hand, it is sad to see how prejudice and trial by the media could blind so many people and led them to ignore the fundamental idea of the rule of law: innocent until proven guilty, not to mention where the burden of proof lies. It is also sad to see how American police officers could try to frame somebody simply because of the color of his skin. History will eventual tell, but Dershowitz' book will remain an all-important piece of the historical puzzle. Kudos, Professor, I wish I had had the privilege of being your student.

This book is so wonderful. The story is so amusing with the bugs depicting the characters in this book. The art work is fun and imaginative and if you tell the story to a child it is fun to give voices to the characters. There is so much reality to the story of a long ago time with adorable and curious bugs. The punch lines are old, but with wit and humor.This is a fun book.I gave this to a 6 year old boy and he loves it. Especially if I read it to him.

I bought this for my 6 year old grandson who loves bugs. He loves this book and wants more like it. He loves the characters and he makes up his own stories about the characters. The only thing I disliked about this book was that it was a graphic novel and not a more usual format. However, I am for anything that gets kids interested in reading and hooked on books.

I bought this for my 9 years old grandson, an avid reader who especially loves learning about animals and strange, creepy crawly bugs. While this book is fun, the play on words and older references (sounds a bit like Eliot Ness) are over-the-head for his age.

What a droll and fun-filled book. My grandson told his mother that it is his favorite! I hope there will be many more Joey Fly books to come.

Joey Fly, Private Eye is a spoof of private eye movies for children, which is an odd idea when you think about it: How many kids have read Mickey Spillane novels or seen The Maltese Falcon? Do they get the clichés that are being parodied? Do they even know how the dial phone on Joey Fly's desk works?The kids who read it may not get the references, but they will probably like this book, which delivers both a good mystery and a good laugh.The plot is pretty straightforward. After a bit of business in which Joey hires a clumsy scorpion, Sammy Stingtail, as his assistant, the requisite lovely lady comes into the office and hires Joey to find her missing diamond pencil box. Delilah, a swallowtail butterfly, fingers a ladybug friend, Gloria, for the crime. It's kind of amazing that it takes 96 pages to figure out that the thief is in fact Delilah herself, since her story is fishy from the get-go (and everyone who has seen a noir movie knows that the beautiful dame with the long legs is nothing but trouble).And that's the one rap on Joey Fly: The story moves very slowly. We follow the detectives as they visit the scene of the crime and interview all the principals, then finally bring them all together for the big reveal, but the pacing is very slow and starts to seem repetitive after a while.On the plus side, the book has lots of humor, both verbal and slapstick. Sammy's tail is a running joke, as is Delilah's dumbness. The voiceover, provided in text boxes, not only keeps the story on track but supplies a steady stream of bug-themed wisecracks: "The facts were starting to line up like centipedes at a shoe sale." "I was putting the pieces together faster than a silkworm at a quilting bee." You get the idea.The art is straightforward and easy to read, but the artists have also put enough details in the background to entertain the careful reader. The creators have dreamed up a clever bug world that mixes natural and urban elements, and their bug-people always look natural despite having four arms and a proboscis instead of a nose. Most of the panels are monochrome, but the color scheme switches for different episodes--blue-violet in Joey Fly's office, dull red when they are questioning a suspect, bright yellow for flashbacks of the party where the box was stolen. This not only provides variety but makes it easier for readers to follow the story. The artist also uses bright red to highlight one key clue, a dropped pencilThe mystery in Joey Fly, Private Eye may be a no-brainer, but private-eye movies are all about the quest. Joey Fly was a private eye and living in the city he had plenty of business because as he claimed, "Crime sticks to this city like a one-winged fly on a fifty-cent swatter." He was lounging in his office waiting for another chump to show up and hand him a case (for a price that is), when all of a sudden unexpected guest burst through his door. It was a kid named Sammy Stingtail. He was a "crusty arachnid type" scorpion who was "young, barely hatched" and looking for work. He looked like a royal pain and as green as they come, but Fly figured he might as well give him a chance.Fly had "more cases than a flea has dogs" and before you know it a swallowtail butterfly came through the door with a case. She was a great looking dame named Delilah AND was missing a diamond pencil box. He could see she was "one ant short of a picnic," but a client was a client and he was going to take the case. "Give me the long and short of it." She accused Gloria, a ladybug, of stealing it because she had "always been jealous of it." Between his clumsy assistant, who seemed to wreck everything in sight with his tail, and this dame he had his work cut out for him. It was time to gather some evidence. Flittany, Delilah's best friend had been talking to Gloria all night at the party . . .Graphic novels are difficult to judge. Some you think young people will grab and rave over, sit on the shelves while others WOW them. This story of Joey Fly and his young assistant was absolutely hysterical. There were numerous lines that had funny little twists to them that appeared to be takeoffs on old television detective shows like Dragnet. "The facts were starting to line up like centipedes at a shoe sale." The panels tended to stick to one color and then change when there was a flashback or total change in the plot. This book was like a modern day "pulp" in a graphic novel format. I really enjoyed it and had several guffaw moments, but I haven't got a clue as to what any other reader will think. Maybe we should hire Joey Fly, PI, to figure that one out!

This is not the kind of book I would normally choose to read, but I got it from the library for some reason and I really enjoyed it. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I made my husband read it to my kids because I thought they would all like it. It's like an old-timey detective book, with lots of comedy and mystery. I'll definitely be reading the second book in this series.

Hope there are more books in this series. My grandson has the two that Amazon carries. He loves them!

This is a very well written book by Dr Phua, an author who is very experienced with essential oils. The uses of the different oils are explained in a very understandable way. I totally recommend the book.

I returned this book immediately. The writing needs serious editing to not come off as clunky. The pictures in the book are stretched out. Self published and print to order. The information appears accurate but is not deep, nor comprehensive. I saw no citations for any reported claims.

A well written book that teaches the basics of essential oil benefits and uses. I’m not well versed in essential oil so I know that this will become a reference for me in the future.

What a huge book. Six hundred and twelve pages of trudging up and down the Andes, scavenging for food, attempting to talk with the natives, and figuring how to carry his photographic equipment. How lucky for us that, at the very least, cameras can now be carried without the benefit of a mule.Harry A. Franck has written many of these tomes and although they are not the travel books of today, full of witty stories and slights of culture, they are remarkably readable. It will take you awhile however.Vagabonding is full of minutia about life throughout the Andes was around the early 1900s. There are mentions of bribes, mosquitoes, heat and cold, and well he's sort of a curmudgeon with a knack for detail. Although he makes a point about how walking makes him invisible to the upper classes and how he wants to see the real people, he tends to make a fair amount of stereotypical or even derogatory remarks about the indigenous people. His writing is typical of his time, before the concept of PC and should be taken with a grain of salt. It is important to try to read a book in the context of the time it was written and to not apply your own, current belief systems to it.There is a lot to be gleaned from this book, especially about geography, culture, food, people and I can only hope that my accounts give some similar rendition in the modern setting.

It's hard to imagine hiking the trails from Bogota to Peru in those days, stopping to spend nights in the shacks of locals and try to buy food from them. One of Franck's amazing travel tales.

Truely an excellent read about life in early 1900. Life in the andeas still the same in many places. I sure can relate to it.

Great adventure story.

This is tone of he best travel book introductions and the worst texts that I've thrown down after spending a second per page speed reading for a ten minutes. The introduction promises a wild walk along the Andes getting to know the natives by living like them. In fact, the author does not take one step outside hotels, bars and town squares in the first 200 pages. He talks incessantly of the color of his pajamas, the price of beer, how bad the food is, the seedy clothes of the people, and how he is taller than everyone, and braver with his rifle and pistol cocked. Along about page 300 he finally takes a step downhill in Ecuador toward the Amazon, where I've also visited. All he does is complain the whole way. There are a couple hundred more pages of big Latin town life, he takes another whining hike, and that's the book you're about to waste your money on if you're a hiker. However, if you want to read about 1917 Latin life in towns and cities, with a negative viewpoint, the book is well written and photos excellent.

Yes this book is long but I almost wished it was longer. Fortunately he wrote many other books which I now want to read. Full of humorous stories and descriptions of the people he meets. Yes, you could consider many of his comments racist but it was written 100 years ago. Some knowledge of Spanish will help you understand a few parts but still worth reading even if you don't know a word of Spanish.
