Donovan and Pascale have given teachers a highly readable, practical text for teachers who haven't given up on the art of teaching. I would go so far as to say that if the lessons of this book were employed in every classroom across the nation, we would see a dramatic increase in success among the students who usually fail, and an increase in productivity and creativity in all students.
I love this book. It provides great activities for integrating arts in the elementary curriculum. The Table of Content shows at the end Appendix A thru E from pages 197 - 210. However the book ends at page 200 and rest of the pages are simply missing. So I am not able to see the references on page 210. I already wrote all over the book now and I do not want to return it but disappointed.
This book is full of great ideas for integrating the arts into various academic areas. The ideas are written in a clear format and can be used in an instant. Each main area of art is included. I have ordered numerous copies to share with mentoring teaching artists who work with classroom teacher training.
Well written, reader friendly, and filled with practical ideas. I also appreciate the arts advocacy and literary arts sections being included. I'm using this as a text for a university course I teach because it's affordable and concise, and I want my students to spend more time creating than reading.
If you're a teacher and you need methods on integrating content areas, get this book. Cheap and many great strategies to get students engaged in lessons.
I don't like art, but I had to get this for an art class. It helped me to find the importance of art in our lives.
