This cookbook has the best fondue recipes ever, especially the non-alcoholic ones. Our cover wasn't the same as shown, but the interior contained the same favorite recipes that we've enjoyed since the 1970's!

Love this book... Had one back in the 70's.. lost in time... glad to find another

If you like fondue, then this is the book for you! It covers cheese fondues, oil fondues, and dessert fondues. There are even a few baked fondues (which the author claims are similar to souffles (without the risk of it falling) and some rarebit recipes. The recipes seem fairly straightforward and easy to follow--some do use canned soups and/or bread crumbs.It brought back fond memories of going to a fondue restaurant with my jr. high or high school teammates.

The introduction has two pages of very rudimentary advice and information concerning different types of fondues, equipment and entertaining. The rest of the book is the " star of the show"- the recipes. Most are easy to make and the ingredients are fairly easy to find. These fondue recipes span cheese, meat (like mongolian hotpot), seafood but also include seafood, hot dips, baked , desserts, oriental , poultry, tempura and more. There is also the very different "rarebits"( a cheese fondue ) recipes. Each recipe also tells the ingredients, that can be dipped into the the fondues. I did try the creamy spinach (fondue) dip and it was very good (my rating 9.4/10). Some interesting ones that I have not tried as yet but will soon are: baked rice fondue, baked turkey fondue, pizza fondue and baked tuna fondue. If you have all the equipment and more information etc then this is a non pricey book and easy way to find some more recipes. If you need to find equipment, find out more about entertaining, then you might either need another book or use this book in conjunction with an appetizer or another book to round out your fondue adventures.

We have had this book for 35 years. We borrowed it from my mom's library, and it has had a place in our cookbook shelf since. We learned how to get the most out of the wine and cheese combination that is typically known as "fondue". The extra recipes are great, but the hidden jewel is the recipe in the introduction that tells you how and why to dredge the cheese in flour, cube the cheese, and all the other little tricks to making perfect fondue. Our book is separated from the binding, has dripped wine and cheese on the pages and gets carefully filed on our cookbook shelf after each time we use it. Finally, someone has the guts to tell you the hard to hear truth instead of patting you on the hand and telling you not to worry "you'll be just fine". I liken these books to "a good dose of tough financial love". Thanks Todd Tresidder for a much needed wake up call that everyone should read.

I have been one of the people who have been leaning perhaps a bit too much on the 4% rule as I have targeted my retirement savings planning. This short book has brought some legitimate concerns to the surface of my thinking. I plan to retire within the year and will incorporate some of the conservative concepts from this book into my approach to spending down my retirement savings. It is a quick and worthwhile read.

I thought this book was extremely well written. Todd took a very complex subject and made it simple enough for even a layman to understand. He did this by not going in very deep with the mathematics. As a doctor of economics myself I appreciated some new concepts he revealed and made me consider them. A MUST READ if you are serious about your retirement planning (and who isn't?) especially in the DE accumulation phase. He's written a GREAT book for the "average punter" and I hope he writes more about the advanced ideas I'm sure he has, though it may not suit a lot of readers who will say its too complex - well finance IS complex. Great work!

I almost bought this book nearly a year ago and, despite the reasonable price, I decided not to because of the 1- and 2-star reviews suggesting the book provides no actionable plan. These low-star reviews could not be farther from the truth. Using the background provided by the author, along with the accompanying references, a 3-step guide is presented that allows one to adjust their personalized withdrawal plan based on critical factors that can destroy one's nest egg. Some of these critical factors are under our control (e.g., age of retirement & personal spending), but others (e.g., inflation, retirement timeframe, & market performance) are neither under our control or are predictable. The 3-step plan provides a dynamic approach allowing periodic adjustments to withdrawals based on changes to variables not under our control. A 60 minute reading of the the book in and of itself does not generated a plan; it requires the individual to look at their own financial situation, the ever-changing external variables, and periodically create/calculate their personalized withdrawal number (i.e., dynamic withdrawal rate).

I like the ideas but some of the links provided don’t work and some other writers referenced may have had their research discredited. I do think the concepts provided are reasonable alternatives that should be considered when you are trying to determine safe investment withdrawal rates.

Easy to read and exceptionally clear analysis of the limitations of conventional wisdom on safe withdrawal strategies. There is no "silver bullet" here, but the realities of market valuations and interest rate trends on a specific retirement date are a sobering reminder that managing retirement income is a "hands on" process that must continually adapt to current market circumstances. The fact that this is tough to do well is one reason that the 4% rule and its variants survive -- it's easy to understand and implement. But the price of that course may be a failed retirement income plan.

It's important to understand the 4% rule if you believe that a 401k is going to provide you and your family security in your financial future. In reality, there is a retirement plan that is 2 to 4 times more effective in producing tax free income, but to understand what you need to do, you must first understand the 4% rule. Just love this photographer and his shots. Second year in a row I bought his calendar. Each shot could be framed and matted for the dog lover -- so sweet. My only wish it that there were more variety in breeds. Last year's calendar had it but this year was a lot of labs.

I wasn’t sure if Kaur was going to be able to pierce my soul like she did with Milk & Honey but she did it with ease. A journey of self love and raw observations about the world around us.The only thing I did notice was if you are an advid reader like myself, you probably picked up a lot of similarity from other poets and works. I think we all strive for originality but sometimes it falls short.I will saw that Rupi Kaur is not for everyone, I know people who worships the ground she walks on and other who loathe her for her writing style.But that’s the thing about poetry, it doesn’t need to be perfect to be power.

This is the second collection of free verse (with some prose) poetry and line drawn art by Rupi Kaur, an ethnically Indian Canadian poet. Like the first collection, “Milk and Honey,” this collection has been well received critically. The strengths of the collection include some beautiful, evocative, and unique use of language; the author’s willingness to lay it all on the line in a bold and brave fashion; and the often clever--if simple, verging on crude—artwork. Its greatest weakness is frequent restatement of clichéd notions and truisms that don’t stand up well juxtaposed to the more personal and illuminating lines.The collection is divided into five parts, each of them reflecting a theme—while being tied together by the titular floral theme. “Wilting” is about breakups. This flows smoothly in tone into the second part, “Falling,” which is about sexual violence, depression, and the linkage between them. “Rooting” is about family and origins, and—in particular—the poet’s relationship with her mother. As an immigrant child who moved to Canada from Punjab while young, Kaur was more attuned to her new home than her parents—who were less at ease with their adopted homeland and more rooted to their ancestral home. The penultimate part, “Rising” is about love and relationships, and it takes the collection into brighter territory. “Blooming” is about feeling comfortable within one’s own skin, and—in particular—the female experience of it.As hinted, the overall organization of the collection seems purposeful and intriguing. The two melancholy parts at the beginning are blended into the last two (more optimistic) parts by way of a chapter on roots and family. This bridging seems to be done on purpose to make a statement.I enjoyed this collection, and would highly recommend it for poetry readers—particularly for those who enjoy free verse.

Book was inappropriate for minors

I was excited to purchase both The Sun and Her Flowers and Milk and Honey as these were actually books recommended to my 14 year old daughter to read (so she put them in her Christmas list). However, when the books got here, I skimmed through. I personally do not feel this is appropriate for my 14 year old. Nowhere in the descriptions did it say anything about sexual content. From what I did read, the books seems like A great read for a more mature reader. Maybe 17. I just feel with the particular sexual content and some of the illustrations, I would not recommend for anyone under 17.

My 13 year old granddaughter asked for this book of 'poetry' for Christmas. After receiving the book and perusing it's contents I discovered that it contained some questionable content for a 13 year old. Be advised that their are graphic sketches and material that you may not be prepared to explain to your young reader.

LOVE Rupi and LOVE this book! If you read her first book (Milk and Honey), it's still in Rupi's signature style, but she manages to cover similar topics from a different standpoint. It kind of feels as though her books are maturing with her, as this one handles the issues from Milk and Honey in a more mature, learned tone. Definitely recommend that ALL young women read this, if for no other reason than to see that we are all sharing very similar struggles in love and life in general.

This was my first hard copy of Rupi Kaur’s books. I read it in sections so I could allow time for the words and images to sink deeply into my soul. It evolves beautifully from wilting at the beginning until blooming at the end. Her writing is lyrical and realistic. Her love of self brings me a new appreciation for the process so many of us women experience after living in darkness.

I love Rupi's style of books. She is very honest and open in her poems which I think is important especially for young readers. I love this book and hope to reread it again soon. I recommend it to anyone looking for a positive and enlightening story made of poems.

I was not really familiar with the works of Shostakovich, but having been to Saint Petersburg several times and speaking with people about the siege of Leningrad, I thought the book would provide an interesting read. It more than delivered on this and I found it hard to put down. The photographs contained in this book are truly fantastic and not just a bunch of blurry indistinguishable ones. The story was both fascinating and moving, while at the same time giving me a new level of respect and appreciation for the residents of Leningrad, while showing how despicable the communist leaders truly were. It was also eye opening to learn about how this seventh symphony was played all over the world and universally understood. Even the Nazi soldiers (some of them) when they heard this symphony being played on loud speakers throughout the city understood that they would never be able to win this city, while also understanding that rather than the subhuman Slavs that they had been told lived there by Hitler that only the strongest and most human of humans could produce such music after such a prolonged siege and period of starvation. I had a SPB resident tell me this past summer about her father as a child and his evacuation from Leningrad during the siege. She spoke to me about the dangerous trip across the lake in the middle of winter. To then read about this "Road of Life" within the book in great detail, brought the earlier story I heard into much sharper detail. It was a good book that I hated to see end, although it is not a short one. After reading this book I bought the symphony to listen to and found the whole experience very enlightening after understanding the circumstances that surrounded its birth.

Wow. Seriously. Wow. This is an exquisitely written book, filled with such power and emotion that it moved me to tears on several occasions. The depth of the research and the honesty with which it is presented is impressive, and kudos to the author for this. I'm not really a huge non-fiction person, and I pretty much never read about war, but this one blew me out of the water. I don't give out five star ratings very often, but this one absolutely deserved it. The proof? Not only did I actually go out and buy the book, but I also bought a recording of the complete symphonies of Shostakovitch. I can't stop thinking about this book, even days later. Read it. You won't regret it.

Ostensibly this is a book for younger readers, perhaps for High School Advanced Placement English, Music or History students. This unassuming book however can hold its own in terms of pure scholarship. I am a subscriber to DSCH, and own every book I've been able to get my hands on on the life and music of Dmitri Shostakovitch, beginning with "Testimony", as told by Shostakovitch to Solomon Volkov and and New York Times journalist Harrison E. Salisbury's "The 900 Days:The Siege of Leningrad." A superb story teller, M.T. Anderson has created the most fully integrated book on Shostakovitch life & times thus far. There are those who consider Shostakovitch to be Gustav Mahler's heir apparent as master of the Symphonic form. We can only wish that someday a writer will come to the fore such as Henri-Louie de LaGrange did for the life & music of Mahler, & will write the definitive book(s) on Shostakovitch. For readers young AND old, Anderson's book will breath life into the story of this tormented soul who was the 20th Centuries most versatile composer.

M.T. Anderson is one of my favorite authors ever, young adult or otherwise, serious or silly. His "Feed" changed my entire perspective on our online world — and I was 42 at the time — and his "Jasper Dash and Flame-Pits of Delaware" is still one of the funniest books I've ever read. When I saw that he had written a book about one of my favorite composers ever, I one-clicked that puppy faster than you can blink. I was not disappointed.I knew the general story of Shostakovich's 7th Symphony, of his composing it during the Siege of Leningrad and what a splash it made across the world at the time, but Anderson presents an unbelievably detailed history of Shostakovich's early life in Leninist Soviet Union, Stalin's brutal reign, the war and the siege, and through it all, Shostakovich's composition of his huge 'war' symphony. It's a complete picture of an utterly foreign world to us, and Anderson brings it all round to the importance of art/music and how it keeps us human even in the worst of times. I was very sorry to see the book end.

I am a classical music lover and I thought this book was outstanding. The author provides the background of what is going on in Russia as it impacts on composer, Dmitri Shostakovich. I had no idea of the torments the Russian people went through as things in the country went from imperial rule to that of Lenin and then Stalin. In America, we hear much about the persecution of the Jews by Germany, but not about the thousands of Russians who were starved, sent to labor camps, tortured, shot, etc. The City of Leningrad was under siege for over a year while bombed and blockaded by the Germans. Shostakovich's 7th symphony (the Leningrad) was played all over the world and even by an orchestra of starving musicians within the city. It brought feelings of solidarity and hope to those who heard it.
